Emilio Gonzalez de Castilla Velasco




He coursed his Bachelor in Law Degree in the Escuela Libre de Derecho, generation 1939-1943, where he was awarded prizes in four out of the five years of the degree.


His professional career as a trial lawyer has earned him a great reputation in Civil, Family, Commercial, Financial and Insurance law.


In 1944, he founded the firm Gonzalez de Castilla, currently Gonzalez de Castilla y Avila Abogados, S. C. During the 1950’s he was professor of Civil Procedural Law in the Free School of Law.


He formed part of the first generation of the Doctorate in Law of the National Autonomous University of Mexico from 1950 to 1951.


He has been a member of the Mexican Bar Association since 1963, and he was Vice-Chairman from 1981 to 1983, and its Chairman from 1983 to 1984.


He was an Honorary Member of the American Bar Association.


He formed part of the International Bar Association (IBA), where he was a Board Member for 13 years starting in 1983. In the IBA, he was a member of numerous Committees, and Joint Director of the Nominations Committee. He participated in countless international conferences organized by this institution, both as Board Member and representing the Mexican Bar Association.


Don Emilio sat on the Board of Directors of the following companies:


Agricultura y Transportes, S. A. de C. V., Credito Refaccionario Industrial, S. A. de C. V., Banco Mexicano, S. A. de C. V., Seguros America, S. A., Compania Mexicana de Seguros “La Equitativa”, Ediciones Intercontinentales, S. A. de C. V. (EDICSA), Extractos y Maltas, S. A., Autodistribuidora, S. A. and Andamios Atlas, S. A. de C. V., Banco Continental, S.A., Fruehauf de México, S.A. de C.V.,  among others.


He was the co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fruehauf de Mexico, S. A. for more than 15 years.


He represented the interests of Guinness Mahon & Co. Limited, bankers from London, England, in Mexico, over fifteen years.


Regarding his civic and philanthropic activities:


For several years he was Chairman of the Franco-Mexican Chamber of Commerce and Industry.


He chaired the Home-Owners Association of the Las Brisas development in Acapulco, Guerrero.


He was a Board Member of the University Club, A. C.


He founded the Turquois Foundation in the Principality of Monaco.


He founded Servirbien Mexico, S. C.


He was also involved in the creation of the “Fondazione Internazionale per lo Stato di Diritto e l’Indipendenza degli Avvocati e dei Magistrati”, in Rome, Italy.


He was awarded the ranks of Officer and Commander of the French Legion of Honor.


In addition to all his specifically legal activities, he also worked in finance, business and philanthropic fields throughout his life.
